Email verification pricing is usually quoted per credit, per month, or per “plan” — three units that cannot be compared directly. This index normalizes the smallest published paid entry at five vendors to one number: dollars per 1,000 checks.
The result is a spread of more than 16x, from $1.20 to $19.50 per 1,000. That gap is a starting point, not a verdict: minimum purchases, catch-all billing, credit expiry and subscription discounts can change the effective cost by more than the headline price does.
Method: desk research on official vendor pricing pages, checked 28 October 2026. Prices are in USD, exclude taxes, and use the smallest published paid entry — not a negotiated or enterprise quote. This is an entry-price index, not an accuracy benchmark. We run Email Validator, one of the vendors listed; the methodology is written so you can replace our number with your own quote.
The index
| Vendor | Free option | Smallest paid entry | Normalized per 1,000 | Catch-all / unknown notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZeroBounce | 100 free monthly validations | $39 for 2,000 credits | $19.50 | Unknown results are free; credits never expire while a ZeroBounce ONE subscription is active |
| NeverBounce | Free list analysis + free test credits | $8 per 1,000 credits (pay-as-you-go) | $8.00 | Confirm catch-all billing with the vendor; PAYG credits expire after 12 months |
| Emailable | 250 free credits | $38 for 5,000 credits | $7.60 | Unknown results and duplicates are refunded; credits never expire |
| Email Validator | 100 free checks monthly | $6/month for 5,000 credits | $1.20 | Catch-all, risky and machine-generated results are not billed as extra credits |
| MillionVerifier | 100 free credits | Plans from $39 | Volume-dependent | Risky, unknown and catch-all results are not charged, per MillionVerifier |
| Clearout | 100 free credits | Pricing shown at checkout | Not normalized | Credits never expire; catch-all handling uses its Deep Verify feature |
MillionVerifier and Clearout are excluded from the bars because their smallest paid entry is not a fixed public per-credit number on the page we checked. That is not a criticism — it is a reason to request a quote before comparing them on price alone.
What stands out
1. The headline spread is 16x
At the smallest published entry, $1.20 per 1,000 versus $19.50 per 1,000 is a 16.25x difference. On a 100,000-address list, that is the difference between a $120 entry purchase and a $1,950 one — before volume discounts and before any catch-all surcharge.
2. Free tiers are not the same product
A one-time 250-credit balance (Emailable) is better for evaluating a single sample. A recurring 100 checks per month (ZeroBounce, Email Validator) is better for ongoing signup checks. NeverBounce offers a free list analysis and test credits, which is a different evaluation path again. Compare the free option to your actual cadence, not just the number.
3. Minimum purchase is a cash-flow decision
ZeroBounce's $39 minimum buys 2,000 checks; Emailable's $38 buys 5,000; NeverBounce's $8 buys 1,000; Email Validator's $6/month buys 5,000. If you verify 500 addresses a month, the cheapest per-1,000 price is not automatically the cheapest first invoice.
4. Catch-all billing changes the effective price
A list can be 20–40% catch-all. If every catch-all result consumes a credit, your effective cost per usable contact rises even when the headline price looks low. Ask each vendor which statuses consume credits and whether the catch-all segment can be exported separately.
Why entry price is not effective cost
Four variables move the real invoice:
- Which statuses consume a credit. If catch-all and unknown are billable, the cost per usable contact is higher than the cost per check.
- The minimum purchase. A low per-credit rate only helps if you can use the balance before it expires.
- Expiry. Credits that never expire are worth more to a seasonal sender than a slightly cheaper credit that dies in 12 months.
- Subscription discounts. Emailable's 15% subscription discount and ZeroBounce's monthly plan can beat the pay-as-you-go entry price at the right volume.
The index above deliberately uses the smallest paid entry. If you already know your monthly volume, ask each vendor for the price at that volume — the ranking can change.
Calculate your own effective cost
Use your list, not the vendor's example:
effective cost per usable contact =
total verification cost
÷ (valid contacts + catch-all contacts you can safely retry)
Then subtract any refunded statuses (for example, Emailable refunds unknown results and duplicates) and add any re-verification you will need next month. A vendor that charges twice for the same uncertain address is more expensive than its entry price suggests.
A simple example: 10,000 addresses, 30% catch-all.
- Vendor A: $8 per 1,000, charges for every status → $80.
- Vendor B: $12 per 1,000, does not charge for catch-all → $84 for the 7,000 definitive checks, plus $0 for 3,000 catch-all.
- The headline winner is Vendor A; the effective cost per definitive result may be close, and Vendor B gives you a cleaner export.
Run the calculation with your own catch-all share before switching.
Vendor notes
ZeroBounce publishes $39 for 2,000 credits and a $99/month ZeroBounce ONE plan. Its FAQ says unknown results are free and credits do not expire while the subscription is active. The 100 free monthly validations are tied to signing up with a business or premium domain, according to its pricing page.
NeverBounce is the simplest pay-as-you-go entry: $8 per 1,000 credits, with a Growth plan at $49/month for up to 10,000 credits. Its pricing page says pay-as-you-go credits expire 12 months after purchase. Ask how catch-all results are billed for your list mix.
Emailable starts with 250 free credits, then $38 for 5,000 ($0.0076 per credit). A 15% subscription brings that to $32.30 for 5,000. Unknown results and duplicates are refunded when a list finishes, and credits never expire. That is a strong evaluation offer; the minimum paid purchase is the main constraint for small senders.
Email Validator includes 100 free checks every month and a $6/month Starter plan with 5,000 credits, which normalizes to $1.20 per 1,000 at that entry. Catch-all, risky and machine-generated results are not billed as extra credits, up to 100,000 addresses per upload. We are the vendor, so verify the current plan terms on /pricing.
MillionVerifier advertises plans from $39, 100 free credits, and no charge for risky, unknown or catch-all results. It also publishes a money-back guarantee if the hard bounce rate exceeds 4%. Its per-1,000 entry price depends on the volume tier, so request the exact quote for your list.
Clearout offers 100 free credits and says credits never expire. Its pricing page is quote/checkout-driven, and catch-all resolution is handled through its Deep Verify feature. Get a written quote before comparing it on the per-1,000 chart.
Methodology and limits
- Sources: official pricing pages for ZeroBounce, NeverBounce, Emailable, Email Validator, MillionVerifier and Clearout, read on 28 October 2026.
- Normalization: smallest published paid entry ÷ included credits × 1,000. Rounded to two decimals.
- Excluded: taxes, currency conversion, negotiated discounts, affiliate credits, enterprise quotes and promotional bonuses.
- This is not an accuracy benchmark. A cheaper vendor with a high false-positive rate can destroy more pipeline than it saves.
- Prices change. Treat this as a template for your own comparison, not a permanent ranking.
FAQ
Which vendor is cheapest per 1,000 checks?
In this sample, Email Validator's $6/month for 5,000 credits normalizes to $1.20 per 1,000, the lowest entry price. MillionVerifier may be competitive at higher volume, but its per-1,000 rate depends on the tier. Always compare at your actual volume.
Why is ZeroBounce $19.50 per 1,000 when other vendors are under $10?
That is the normalized smallest paid entry ($39 for 2,000 credits), not a volume quote. ZeroBounce's subscription and larger credit purchases change the effective rate; ask for your volume.
Are free credits enough to evaluate a vendor?
For a 100-address seed test, yes. For a real 5,000-row sample with catch-all and role addresses, you need a paid balance or a trial that covers the sample. A free tier that only allows a few checks is a demo, not an evaluation.
Does the cheapest entry price mean the lowest total cost?
No. Catch-all billing, credit expiry, minimum purchase and false positives can reverse the ranking. Use the effective-cost formula above.
